Welcome to Bwindi Jungle Lodge is nestled on Lake Mulehe (Mucha) about 10 km from Kisoro town along the road to Rubuguli and it is about 20 km from the Southern gate of Bwindi National Park in Rushaga and Nkuringo. This is a beautiful location ideal for the tourist activities in Bwindi National Park (Southern sector) and Mgahinga National Park.

The lodge is embedded into a forest cover, enjoys the peace of the Lake, it is a natural birding area and it has a natural bay on the shores of the lake. This is the natural habitat of the mountain gorillas though today the forest cover has decreased to the remaining existing national parks.

Bwindi Jungle Lodge is made by cottages, all en-suite and with raised verandah overlooking Lake Mulehe and the lodge was built using the local volcanic stones and timber. The large restaurant and bar enjoys a verandah overlooking the lake and the design and architecture utilize the local tradition of volcanic stones and fencing.

Accessibility

Bwindi Jungle Lodge is located on Lake Mulehe, Mucha in Kisoro District and in Nyundo Sub-County and it is about 10 km from Kisoro town along the road to Rubuguli.

The lodge is located a few kilometers away from Kisoro Airstrip where landing domestic flights from Entebbe Airport connect the Southern sector of Bwindi National Park.

Activities

While at Bwindi Jungle Lodge you can book the following activities:

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park (Rushaga sector) or in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Canoe trip and village walk on Lake Mulehe;

This walk starts with the canoe ride from the lodge’s dock crossing Lake Mulehe with stopover at the Giseke hill where you meet a family of farmers and you interact with them as they show you how to make bee hives and how crops like matoke (banana), beans and rice are cultivated in this area. From the house you can also see the preparation of food and the head of the house will tell stories about traditional dances, music and about life in the Bufumbira region. After the interaction, you continue for a walk along the hills and see more gardens, some plants, fruits and vegetables as you proceed toward Muhanga village where you will be able to visit Muhanga Primary and Secondary Government Schools and from there you can interact with the pupils and students. This walk is about 2km. Slope to the dock where the canoe is waiting to take you back to the lodge

Canoe Boat Ride on Lake Mulehe

The canoe trip in Lake Mulehe is a guided activity which takes about two hours starting from the lodge’s dock to visit interesting sights along Lake Mulehe, particularly for birding in the delta of River Mucha, where you can see variety of bird species including pelicans, African Jacana, kingfishers, cormorants, fish eagle and many more. Continue your excursion at leisure as you also visit the fishing site and some islands.

Batwa Today at Echuya Forest

Meet the Batwa who are the original human inhabitants of Echuya Forest Reserve who have now been moved out of the Forest and now have taken on the responsibility of guarding this forest. They will give you briefing and a demonstration of their lives including hunting, harvesting and way of life.

This is followed by guided nature walk led by the Batwa as your local guides since they are the true experts of this environment. The Batwa are also the caretakers /Forest guards of this reserve. This forest reserve is a fantastic birding destination with an estimated record of 150 species of birds.

Variety of flora and fauna and a few primates can be spotted during the nature walk. You can also have a beautiful view of Lake Bunyonyi. This forest also offers fantastic sites for picnic lunch. This activity starts at 9.00am and can take between 4-5 hrs.
